The towns first known mention in history was in the Doomsday Book which it was referred to as Ernehale. In the 19th century, Arnold was at the centre of the framework knitting industry. It was also the site of the Luddite riots in March 1811 where 63 frames were demolished by workers. The Luddite riots erupted because workers could no longer tolerate the standard of living, the decrease in pay and the conditions of their employment.
Arnold town centre has a vast array of shops, bars and restaurants. These include Asda, Mcdonalds, Argos, WH Smith and Asda aswell as local businesses. The towns future is set to change for the better as the local council Gedling has been in talks with other councils in Greater Nottingham to decide where 7200 new homes will be built. If they do decide to build new homes in Arnold then Nottingham Lettings will be there every step of the way.
