Long Eaton Letting Agents

Long Eaton is a suburb of Nottingham, forming part of the Nottingham Urban Area, although it is actually in the county of Derbyshire. It has a population of 45,000 and is situated just north of the River Trent.

Originally called Aitone, Long Eaton was given the “Long” part of its name in 1228 due to the town being so long. In 1694 there was a “Great Fire of Long Eaton” that destroyed 14 houses and a number of other properties in the Market Place. During the 19th century, Long Eaton developed around the railway wagon and lace-making industries. There are a number of wonderful industrial buildings from Long Eaton’s lace-making past. One of the largest is Harrington Mill, which was built in 1885, is made using 1.25 million bricks and is 167 mitres long. Other great buildings include the Palladian Long Eaton Hall and the Parish Church of St. Laurence.

Long Eaton has the public school Trent College, which also contains the independent preparatory Elms School. There are also two state secondary schools, the Wilsthorpe Business and Enterprise College and the Long Eaton School. There are also a few primary schools.

There are a number of well-known people who hail from Long Eaton. There are several sportspeople, such as the footballers Mark Draper, Garry Birtles and Lewish McGuidan. Other notable residents have included TV presenter Saira Khan, broadcaster John Walters, impressionist painter Laura Knight, actress Georgia Groome, electronic musician Aetherfx, and Labour politician Douglas Houghton, Baron Houghton of Sowerby.
