Mapperley is a residential and commercial area in Nottingham. It is surrounded by Sherwood to the north-west, Gedling to the east and Thorneywood to the south. There is an older part of Mapperley, dating from the late 19th Centuary called Mapperley Park, this area has some of the grandest houses in all of Nottingham. There are many fine Edwardian and Victorian villas, some of which have been divided into flats which have contributed to the increase of students in the area. If you are a landlord and you have a student let property, Nottingham Lettings can offer you a outstanding service to make sure you have quality tenants in your property.

Mapperley is divided up into smaller areas such as Porchester, Mapperley Park, Mapperley Plains, Thorneywood and Mapperley itself. Mapperley is the area off Woodborough Road/Plains Road, north of the junction of Ransom Road. There are a mixture of houses along Woodborough Road, some three bed terraces and some newer built two bedroom apartments. There are also more newer developments off Porchester Road and off Plains road. Mapperley is a good central hub with a decent shopping centre along Plains Road, which includes Boots, Co-op, Oxfam, greengrocers and other shops.

Porchester is the area between Mapperley to the north west and Carlton to the south west. The point at which Porchester ends is greatly debated, Moore Road is a good guideline but some residents living south of this street will still insist that they live in Mapperley rather than Porchester. There are a wide mixture of properties in the area which mainly appeal to the family market. There is a good school called Porchester School but it is a junior school only so children over upto the age of 7 will need to go elsewhere.

Thorneywood is split up into two parts either side of Porchester Road. The eastern part is between Porchester Road and Standhill Road, whilst the western part is comprised of Thorneywood Mount and the roads off it. There are plenty of period properties in this area but the further you go away from Porchester Road the newer the properties are. Thorneywood has a few shops at the junction of Porchester Road and Florence Road, there is a post office, a barbers, two general stores and a newsagents, there is also another post office at the bottom of Thorneywood Mount.
